Mortgage Help Extended!

Posted 4 years 144 days ago ago by SuperUser Account

This is just a quick reminder for homeowners who are struggling to make their mortgage payments for any number of different reasons.  The Federal government has extended two key programs designed to help struggling home owners relieve some of the burden of their mortgage payments.  These programs have been extended to the end of 2016, so please reach out to your lender and or local Real Estate agent to get more information to see if you are eligible for either of these programs.

HAMP

The Home Affordable Modification Program is designed to help homeowners by modifying the term on your mortgage, lowering the interest rate, and or providing a payment forbearance.  This program was designed ideally for those that are in danger of missing loan payments.

HARP

The Home Affordable Refinance Program is designed to help homeowners by allowing them to refinance their properties at a lower rate even though you may have no equity in the property.  This is an ideal program for those of you who may still be stuck with a high interest rate loan and haven't been able to take advantage of the lower interest rates over the past few years.

Please don't look at these programs as a complete answer to the challenges that you may be currently having.  These are temporary solutions that still require a long term plan to restore both your mental and financial peace.  In some cases it may still be advantageous to sell your property proactively to ensure that defaulting on your mortgage never happens.  If you've had to miss some mortgage payments as a result of a life event, please consider a short sale or something similar in an effort to minimize the negative impact on your credit and confidence.  As a certified short sale foreclosure resource, I can work with you and your family to explore the different options available to you.
